Iran, Azerbaijan Discuss Promotion of Defense Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Military officials from Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan weighed plans to enhance defense cooperation between the two neighbors.
Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have held the fourth meeting of the joint commission on military and defense cooperation in Tehran during the past recent days.
In a meeting on the sidelines of the event on Monday, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani and Azeri commander General Farid Aliyev discussed a range of issues.
They talked about ways to promote military cooperation between the two countries.
Pointing to the “significant and influential” place of the Azerbaijan Republic in Iran’s foreign policy, the Iranian general said the South Caucasus developments would impact Iran’s security.
He also hailed the deep-rooted bonds between the Iranian and Azeri nations, saying closer cooperation between the two neighbors will pave the way for their success and serve their national interests.
For his part, General Aliyev called for closer cooperation between Baku and Tehran to ensure peace and stability in the region.
He also hailed the joint military exercises between the two countries as a good example of interaction.
