Israeli Strikes Ravage Gaza As Palestinian Leaders Discuss Rafah Border
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli forces escalated their bombardment of the Gaza Strip, targeting multiple locations overnight, while Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas held talks in Cairo on reopening the Rafah border crossing.
Israeli strikes continued across Gaza, with reports of heavy shelling and widespread destruction.
In the northern Jabalia refugee camp, Israeli forces destroyed several buildings and launched artillery strikes on Beit Lahiya.
Southern areas, including Abasan al-Kabira in Khan Younis, also faced intense shelling.
Witnesses described the attacks as indiscriminate, sparking fears of a new ground invasion, according to the Wafa news agency.
Central Gaza was not spared, with attacks reported in the Nuseirat refugee camp and al-Musaddar village, where Israeli forces killed one Palestinian, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.
As the bombardment persisted, images of devastation from Gaza prompted questions about the international community's response and the historical implications for the region.
In a related development, Fatah and Hamas leaders met in Cairo to discuss a proposal to reopen the Rafah crossing, a vital gateway for humanitarian aid and movement between Gaza and Egypt.
Meanwhile, Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) leaders, meeting in Kuwait, renewed their call for an “immediate and permanent” ceasefire in Gaza.
The PGCC welcomed arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant, condemning the ongoing Israeli violence as part of a “genocide and ethnic cleansing agenda.”
The death toll in Gaza has climbed to 44,429 since October 7, with over 105,250 wounded, as reported by Palestinian authorities.
