Israel Pounds Syria As New Leader Says Syrians Too Exhausted for New War
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has condemned the Israeli regime’s land grabs and ongoing attacks, saying the Arab country is too “exhausted” for a new conflict.
The Israeli regime continued to pound Syria, with a war monitor reporting 61 Israeli missile attacks on military sites in the country within a five-hour period on Saturday evening.
Ahmed al-Sharaa said Israel’s attacks on Syria threaten “a new unjustified escalation in the region”, but added that Syrians are too “exhausted” for another war.
Israeli military tanks have made incursions into a number of villages and towns in the Quneitra governorate in the southwestern part of Syria.
The Israeli tanks and vehicles have damaged the streets in that region, cut down the trees on both sides of the roads, and destroyed electricity poles.
Meanwhile, fighting continues in northeastern Syria, between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), as well as with the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-led forces that overthrew al-Assad, Al Jazeera reported.
Top diplomats from eight Arab countries, Turkey and the US met in Jordan to discuss Syria’s future and called for a peaceful and inclusive political transition in the country.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Biden administration has “been in contact” with HTS, which is led by al-Sharaa but is designated a “terrorist” organization by Washington.
