Iran Urges IAEA to Avoid Politicization, Discount External Pressures

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister called on the UN nuclear agency to stay away from politicized approaches, focus on technical cooperation, and ignore unjustified demands and pressures from other countries regarding interaction with Iran.

In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Abbas Araqchi and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi talked about the latest state of cooperation and technical interaction between Iran and the UN nuclear agency.

Reiterating Iran’s readiness to continue cooperation with the IAEA in line with its obligations, Araqchi underlined the need to avoid politicizing technical issues and making unconstructive statements.

He also stressed that Iran and the IAEA must continue their cooperation in a technical and forward-looking environment, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Araqchi emphasized that the IAEA is obliged to operate within the framework of its duties and responsibilities, and urged Grossi not to heed unjustified requests and pressures from other countries.

Grossi, for his part, highlighted the IAEA's resolve to engage in serious interaction and cooperation with Iran.

Within the framework of its duties and authorities, the IAEA will consult with all sides to create a suitable environment for resolving the existing issues, he stated.
