Iranian President Seeks Academic Aid to Meet Challenges

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian called on academic centers to share their expertise and offer practical strategies to tackle the country’s pressing challenges.

In an address at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran on Monday evening, Pezeshkian stressed the need for collaboration between his administration and the academic community.

Highlighting the significant potential of the Iranian universities to address the nation’s problems, the president urged the academic organizations to actively engage in proposing effective solutions to regional and environmental challenges.

He also pointed to the pressing problem of water shortage in various regions, including Tehran, warning that certain areas in Tehran Province are experiencing alarming land subsidence of up to 36 centimeters, while even a 2 centimeter subsidence level signifies a crisis.

President Pezeshkian also discussed imbalances in the essential services such as electricity, water, gas, and finance, which currently appear insurmountable. However, he expressed confidence that motivated individuals possess the capability to resolve these issues.

Pointing to the significant financial challenges in Iran, the president stated that approximately $150 billion in hidden subsidies are distributed, yet many disadvantaged individuals do not benefit from them, his official website reported.

He finally emphasized that despite the abundance of wealth and resources in Iran, it is absolutely unacceptable for individuals to struggle to make ends meet while the well-off groups receive a larger share of subsidies.
