US Attacks on Yemen Escalating Instability in Region, Araqchi Warns

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran condemned the US’ recurrent military strikes on Yemen, saying the concurrence of such onslaught and the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression against Gaza, Lebanon and Syria show they are acting in unison to undermine regional security and stability.

In a meeting with the United Nations’ Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, held in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi condemned the American military strikes on Yemen that have killed many civilians and destroyed the Arab country’s infrastructures.

He said the fact that the US’ onslaught on Yemen comes at the same time with the escalation of the Zionist regime’s genocidal crimes in Gaza and its acts of aggression against Lebanon and Syria indicate the US and Israel’s complicity in law-breaking and their partnership in promoting insecurity and instability in the region.

The Iranian foreign minister also deplored the US’ unrealistic understanding of the people of Yemen and the region.

“The American policy-makers must realize that the root cause of insecurity in the region is the persistence of occupation and genocide in occupied Palestine,” he said.

“The US cannot claim to be restoring stability in the region by attacking Yemen and massacring innocent Yemeni people, who only express solidarity and support for the oppressed people of Palestine,” Araqchi stated.

The top Iranian diplomat also decried the UN Security Council’s inaction on the Israeli and American violation of the UN Charter and the international law, stressing the need for the UN’s urgent and effective measures to stop law-breaking and the breach of the international norms.

For his part, Grundberg appreciated Iran for supporting the UN’s efforts at peace in Yemen.

He noted that achieving peace and stability in Yemen is a matter of urgent necessity for the Yemenis and also for the security and stability of the entire region.
