Iran, Algeria Share Views on Int’l Issues: Araqchi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Highlighting the common stances of Iran and Algeria on the regional and international issues, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi praised Algeria’s courageous policies as a member of the UN Security Council during the past year.

Araqchi paid an official visit to Algiers on Tuesday and held meetings with senior Algerian officials on a broad range of subjects.

In comments at the presidential palace of Algeria after a meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Iranian foreign minister said, “We respect Algeria’s role and position within the United Nations Security Council in defending Palestine.”

“The relationship between Iran and Algeria -as two friendly and Muslim countries- has long been deep-rooted, strong, and brotherly. Our countries share very close views on international and regional matters, and have consistently maintained close consultations and dialogue at bilateral and regional levels,” he said.

“In my meeting with the president of Algeria, we discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including economic cooperation, political consultations between our two countries, and coordination within international fora,” Araqchi added.

“Most notably, the question of Palestine and the atrocities committed by the occupying Zionist regime against the Palestinian people was a central topic of our discussions,” he noted.

“In our view, Algeria’s stance at the United Nations Security Council over the past year -as a member of the Council- has been exceptionally courageous,” the minister stated.

“Political exchanges and mutual visits between our two nations will continue, and we hope to host the esteemed president of Algeria in Iran in the new year,” he added.
