Economist: Registering Iran-US Chamber of Commerce to Take Time
TEHRAN (Tasnim) Registering a joint Iran-United States chamber of commerce would take at least 6 months and need prior approval of the ministries of foreign affairs and commerce, said an economist on Monday.
Reacting to earlier reports on registration of such a chamber, Head of the Imports Commission of the Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industries Majid Reza Hariri told Tasnim News Agency that due to legal, technical and administrative issues, this process can take at least six months to complete.
"After getting the required permission from those two ministries, a number of active traders must apply for commercial ID cards to do trade with that country. Later, the founding members of the new chamber of commerce will be introduced and its articles of association and sets of rules and regulations devised, and eventually there will be call for a plenary session and the board of directors will be formed," he said.
Head of the Imports Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industries said any chamber could only be set up at the end of this process, something which he said would take at least six months in the best situation.
During their visit to Washington to participate in the joint IMF-World Bank conference, Iran's economy minister and its central bank governor had a meeting with the Iranian expatriots, merchants and economic activists in the US.
An Iranian merchant said at that meeting that Head of Iran Presidential Office and President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce Mohammad Nahavandian had issued a special order for the establishment of an Iran-US chamber of commerce when President Hassan Rouhani was in new York to attend the UN General Assembly, and that the chamber had already been registered.
