Former Iraqi PM Urges Efforts to Uphold Islamic Awakening Movement
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Former Iraqi prime minister, Ibrahim al-Jafari, called on the whole Muslim pundits to stand against the moves that aim to derail the Islamic Awakening movement.
Addressing the international conference on the “Role of the Islamic World on the Global Power Structure” here in Tehran on Tuesday, Jafari demanded that the whole experts in the Islamic Awakening concept join hands to safeguard the movement.
He underlined that it is necessary to tackle any move that seeks to disrupt the Islamic Awakening, because awakening is the requisite of movements in the societies.
The two-day conference that kicked off this morning in Tehran is held under the auspices of Iran’s Supreme National Defense University, the Islamic Awakening Assembly secretariat and the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference.
A number of expert meetings are also planned to be held on the sidelines of the international conference.
Dozens of leading figures and influential personalities in the Muslim world have taken part in the gathering.
A day earlier, the Iranian capital hosted the 6th meeting of the Islamic Awakening Supreme Council, as the participants exchanged views on the latest developments in the Islamic Awakening movement and the steps required to be taken regarding the movement.
Yesterday’s meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ibrahim al-Jafari.
Jafari, 67, is an Iraqi politician who was prime minister of Iraq in the Iraqi Transitional Government from 2005 to 2006, following the January 2005 election.
