Iran’s President to Visit Turkey within Next 2 Months

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian foreign minister announced that the country’s President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to pay an official visit to Turkey by the next two months.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced Rouhani’s plan for the upcoming trip during a visit to the Turkish eastern city of Van on Friday.

The Iranian top diplomat was in Turkey yesterday to attend a trilateral meeting with his Turkish and Azeri counterparts.

Zarif, along with Turkey’s Ahmet Davutoglu and Azerbaijan’s Elmar Mammadyarov convened the third annual trilateral meeting among foreign ministers of the three neighboring states.

They explored avenues for the expansion of regional ties between Tehran, Ankara and Baku.

Rouhani’s upcoming meeting to Turkey will occur a few months after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Iran earlier in January.

The Turkish PM’s visit to Iran focused on holding talks with senior Iranian authorities on Tehran-Ankara ties, trade relations and regional issues.

In comments during his visit to Tehran, Erdogan had announced that he expects 2014 to mark a rebirth of bilateral relations between Iran and Turkey.

It was Erdogan’s first trip to Tehran after the Iranian president took office in August 2013.
