Iran, Georgia Mull Development of Cooperation on Road Transit
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of Iran’s Road Maintenance and Road Transportation Organization Davoud Keshavarzian and Georgia’s new ambassador to Iran explored ways for developing and facilitating road transit cooperation between the two countries.
In a meeting in Tehran on Saturday, the two official discussed enhancing cooperation and taking more steps to facilitate the traffic of Iranian and Georgian transportation fleet between the two countries.
During the meeting, Keshavarzian called on Georgia to increase the number of permissions for the Iranian transit trucks to enter Georgia.
The Georgian envoy, for his part, called for the enhancement of bilateral trade, adding that Georgia is willing to offer the facilities in the country’s Poti and Batumi ports to Iranian traders.
Iran and Georgia agreed to increase mutual cooperation on transportation at the meeting of the two countries’ joint road transportation commission in February.
Some 10 thousand trucks transfer goods between Iran and Georgia annually.
