Iranian Minister in Kazakhstan for Economic Meetings

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia traveled to Kazakhstan to participate in a number of economic forums, including the 4th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Finance and Economy.

The ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization), is slated for May 22-23 in Almaty. The Kazakh capital will also host the 7th Astana Economic Forum and the 2nd World Anti-Crisis Conference in the coming days.

The Iranian minister will reportedly hold a number of meetings with his counterparts from the other nations on the sidelines of the upcoming meetings.

The 4th ECO Ministerial Meeting will provide representatives of the member states with the opportunity to review the implementation of the decisions made in the previous meeting and discuss and decide on the possible areas of further cooperation, including strengthening the ECO Trade and Development Bank, according to ECO official website.

ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey and is aimed at promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among member states.

The organization was expanded in 1992 to include seven new members, namely Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. It became a UN observer in 1993 and an observer at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in 1994.

ECO's secretariat and cultural department are located in Tehran, its economic bureau is in Turkey and its scientific bureau is situated in Pakistan.
