Robust Security Plan Devised to Defend Baghdad against ISIL Attacks

“A robust security plan has been adopted to prevent terrorist groups from entering Baghdad,” Ma’an was quoted as saying by Nahreen website.

He added that sufficient logistical support and ammunitions are available to defend the city.

On June 10, Iraq’s northern Nineveh Province fell into the hands of militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Takfiri (extremist terrorists’) attacks have reportedly forced more than half a million people in and around Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, to flee their homes.

Takfiri militants have vowed to march toward the capital, Baghdad.

Elsewhere in the country, the Iraqi army continued its operations to confront the terrorist attacks in different areas.

The army has regained full control over the cities of Samarra and Tikrit, according to Al-Alam news network, and continues to advance in regions attacked by the ISIL militants.

Meantime, Diyala province’s police chief said repeated attempts by terrorists to infiltrate the province have been foiled by the security forces with support from tribal people of the province.

Jamil Al-Shimri added that militants from ISIL have suffered huge losses in an area near Diyala.

In another development, a bomb placed in a tanker was discovered and defused near Karbala while another tanker carrying weapons was also seized in the south of the city.

Takfiri groups are reportedly entering Iraq from neighboring Syria and Saudi Arabia to undermine security in the country.
