Zarif: Final N. Deal Possible if Western Parties Avoid Excessive Demands
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized that if some parties to the nuclear talks avoid excessive demands, reaching a final agreement over the country's peaceful nuclear program would be possible.
“We are seeking to restore the inalienable rights of the Iranian nation (in nuclear talks with six world powers), and the seriousness as well as avoiding excessive demands by some parties will make the (final nuclear) agreement possible,” Zarif said during a Saturday meeting with new Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Pang Sen.
The fifth round of negotiations between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) over Iran’s peaceful nuclear program was held in the Austrian capital of Vienna on June 16-20.
The talks were aimed at drafting a comprehensive deal to resolve the decade-long standoff over Tehran's peaceful nuclear energy program.
As regards Iran's bilateral ties with China, Zarif called for the promotion of Tehran-Beijing relations in all areas.
He said that Iran attaches great significant to ties with China, expressing the hope that ties between the two countries would strengthen in various areas, especially in the area of economy.
The Chinese ambassador, for his part, submitted a copy of his credentials to Foreign Minister Zarif, and said that his country is determined to make every effort to enhance bilateral ties.
Pang said China has always emphasized that Western parties should enter the talks over Iran’s nuclear program with realism in order to reach a final agreement.
