Over 14,000 Ukrainian Refugees Accommodated in Russia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The total number of Ukrainian refugees staying in temporary accommodation sites in Russia exceeds 14,000, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said Tuesday.

"A total of 211 temporary accommodation sites have been established, with over 14,200 people -- nearly 6,500 children -- living in them," a ministry spokesman said. "Six more mobile temporary accommodation sites have been set up with a capacity of 3,000 people."

The Rostov region and Crimea have the largest number of refugees. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and regional governments have jointly worked to help the refugees, according to the spokesman, Xinhua reported.

"Six 'air bridges' have been established for the transfer of people to other regions of the Central and Southern Federal Districts," said the spokesman, adding that over 950 refugees have been relocated in this way.

The ministry also ordered convoys to make sure refugees can safely reach the temporary settlements.

Moreover, over 250 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes have been delivered to the battle areas in Ukraine, the spokesman said.

According to statistics given last Thursday by the ministry, the number of refugees who had fled from Ukraine to Russia exceeded 18,900.
