Argentina Defeats Belgium to Reach World Cup Semis
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Argentina national football team beat Belgium and advanced to the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-final thanks to an early Gonzalo Higuain goal in Brasilia.
Angel di Maria sent in a cross that was deflected and fell perfectly for Higuain at the top of the penalty box. The Napoli striker fired home in the 8th minute.
Messi missed a one-to-one with Thibaut Courtois in the dying moments of the match.
"That a player like Messi almost never loses the ball is water in the desert," said Alejandro Sabella after the match.
"Today, when the terrain was dry he gave us that breath of fresh air every time he had the ball," Argentina coach added.
Argentina will meet the Netherlands on July 10.
