Afshin Ghotbi Says Goodbye to Shimizu S-Pulse Fans in Farewell Letter

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Afshin Ghotbi has bid farewell to Shimizu S-Pulse fans in a farewell letter that he posted on his official website.

Afshin Ghotbi was fired by Shimizu S-Pulse following the poor results at the J-League’s first half of the season on July 31.

Ghotbi has written this heartfelt message to Shimizu S-Pulse supporters:

“Three and half year has come to an abrupt end.  I feel an enormous pain to part with my staff, players, and supporters who I considered family.  I poured my heart and soul, blood and sweat into the Shimizu S-Pulse.  The results did not always illustrate the progress we made, but the journey inspired a new generation.  I have no regrets; only wonderful memories itched in my thoughts and heart forever.  I would like to express my deepest appreciation for your love, devotion, and support.  Thank you for your everlasting cheers. I will remember you forever.  Good-Bye Shizuoka.”

Ghotbi was appointed as Shimizu coach in 2011. Though he led S-Pulse to a runner-up finish in the 2012 Nabisco Cup, the club never placed higher than ninth in the league under the Iranian-born American.

Ghotbi has already managed the Iranian popular team Persepolis and the country’s national football team.

Carlos Queiroz replaced Ghotbi as Team Melli coach in 2011.
