Iran, Turkmenistan Discuss Expansion of Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan in a meeting on Friday explored avenues for the enhancement of the two neighboring countries' bilateral ties.
President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow met in Tajikistan’s capital city of Dushanbe, where senior officials from other regional states have gathered to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
During the meeting, the two presidents discussed ways on how to broaden all-out relations between Tehran and Ashgabat.
Thereafter, they headed to the Nowruz Palace, where the 14th SCO summit kicked off.
The SCO is an intergovernmental organization that was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Iran, along with four other countries, holds observer status in the organization.
