Iran’s President Congratulates Mexico on Independence Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani in a message felicitated the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on the North American country's Independence Day.

In his message, President Rouhani expressed the hope that the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Mexico would strengthen through the utilization of the existing capacities.

Rouhani also wished success for the Mexican president and prosperity for the nation and government.

Earlier, in a meeting with Mexico’s Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Carlos de Icaza in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran and its southern port city of Chabahar provides a suitable route for Mexico to have access to the Central Asian nations for trade purposes.

“Mexico and other countries can have (trade) ties with the Central Asian countries via Iran, and the port of Chabahar very well provides a gateway to Afghanistan and Central Asia,” Zarif said.

Zarif also noted that Tehran and Mexico City enjoy abundant capacities to strengthen ties in different fields.
