Iran: Comprehensive Nuclear Deal Needs Seriousness, Flexibility

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran will push ahead with the nuclear talks with world powers in a serious manner, a senior Iranian negotiator reiterated, urging the other side to show seriousness to secure a long-awaited deal on Iran’s peaceful nuclear case before a November 24 deadline.

“We will continue negotiations with seriousness and hope that the other side would also have the necessary seriousness and flexibility so that we can reach the comprehensive agreement before November 25,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi said.

He made the comments in a meeting with State Secretary of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Yves Rossier, in the European country.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are currently in talks to work out a lasting accord aimed at ending the longstanding dispute over Tehran’s civilian nuclear activities.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the two diplomats explored the avenues for the expansion of bilateral ties between Tehran and Bern.

“There are abundant capacities for the enhancement of bilateral relations, particularly in the economic arena, which should be employed by the two countries,” Takht Ravanchi said.

The Iranian deputy minister flew to New York afterwards to join his peers for a fresh round of nuclear talks on Tehran’s nuclear case.

A delegation of Iranian diplomats, led by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, left Tehran for New York on Tuesday to attend the United Nations General Assembly and also hold nuclear talks with the six world powers.

Last November, the two sides signed an interim deal in Geneva, which took effect on January 20 and expired six months later on July 20. In July, Tehran and the six countries agreed to extend negotiations until November 24 after they failed to reach common ground on a number of key issues.
