Bahraini Opposition Groups to Discuss Countering Al Khalifa Regime
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights Nabeel Rajab called on the country’s opposition groups to discuss ways for confronting the ruling regime.
In a message posted on his Twitter page, Rajab urged Bahraini groups like Al Wefaq National Islamic Society to hold a meeting and confer on solutions for the country’s political crisis and how to deal with the Al Khalifa regime.
He underlined that opposition parties inside and outside of Bahrain should work out a long-term strategy for tackling the political crisis.
Rajab also warned against taking rash decision regarding negotiations with the ruling regime, saying that it would not serve the realization of people’s demands.
Since mid-February 2011, thousands of pro-democracy protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.
On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates invaded the country to assist the Bahraini government in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.
According to local sources, scores of people have been killed in the crackdown.
