Iran: Nuclear Talks Underway in “Serious” Atmosphere

VIENNA (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Wednesday that nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers are in progress in Vienna in “serious and intensive” atmosphere.

Speaking to reporters in the Austrian capital, Marziyeh Afkham said the expert-level talks are now in progress on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

She also dismissed media speculations on the outcome of the nuclear talks.

Afkham said the whole subjects that had been discussed in the previous rounds of talks will be all mooted again in this fresh round.

According to the spokeswoman, the negotiating parties have put new initiatives on the table.

Since Tuesday, senior diplomats from Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) have launched a decisive phase of diplomacy in Vienna to draft a lasting accord, meant to end years of Western standoff over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The talks are expected to continue until November 24, a self-imposed deadline for the talks.

The two sides inked a six-month deal on Tehran’s nuclear activities in Switzerland on November 24, 2013. The Joint Plan of Action took effect on January 20 and expired six months later.
