Former Irish PM Hails Economic Capacities of Tehran, Dublin

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern highlighted the expansion of ties with Tehran given the economic potentials of both countries.

In a Wednesday meeting with the head of Iran-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group Javad Heravi in Tehran, Ahern said that the two countries should remove the obstacles and promote their ties to take advantage of their economic and commercial capacities in different fields.

The Irish politician further pointed to recent visits of high-ranking Irish delegations to Iran, and said they indicate serious determination of officials in Dublin for expansion of ties with Iran.

He also hailed the advancements of the two countries in the fields of technology, medicine, and nanotechnology, describing them as a good opportunity for the development of relations between Iranian and Irish research centers.

The Iranian lawmaker, for his part, said Iran is a reliable partner for Ireland in joint investments thanks to its security and stability, and voiced the parliamentary group’s support for the expansion of bilateral ties.

“There are numerous opportunities in different political and economic sectors between Islamic Republic of Iran and Ireland that should be seized in line with the interests of the two countries,” Heravi added.

Earlier in January, Chairman of the Irish Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen and Iran’s Heravi underlined the two parliament's support for closer ties between the two countries.
