Conflicts Kill 11, Wound 5 in Afghanistan within Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Conflicts between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants have left 11 people from warring sides dead and injured five others on Sunday, officials said.

Six people including five militants and a police were killed elsewhere in the northern Kunduz province in a clash between security forces and insurgents, police said.

Five insurgents, according to police, had been killed as security forces raided a Taliban hideout in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province with Kunduz city as its capital, 250 km north of Kabul on Sunday morning.

"Acting upon intelligence report, units of police attacked Taliban hideout in Tajlaqi area of Imam Sahib district killing five insurgents," police spokesman in the province, Sayed Sarwar Hussaini told reporters.

There were no casualties on security personnel and civilians, the official said.

However, the official confirmed that militants attacked and killed a police constable in the neighboring Khanabad district on Sunday.

Moreover, a clash between security forces and Taliban left five people including three police and two militants dead and injured same number in the central Wardak province on Sunday, a statement of the provincial government sent to media outlets confirmed.

The clash, according to the statement erupted in Chak district Sunday morning and lasted for a while during which three local police had lost their lives and three others sustained injuries.

Two militants including a Taliban local commander were killed and two others injured in the clash, the statement asserted.

Security personnel had also seized a number of arms and ammunition during the operations, according to the statement, Xinhua reported.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit, in contact with media confirmed a clash in Wardak province, claiming five local police had been killed in Chak district on Sunday.
