Algerian Speaker Hails Islamic Revolution’s Regional, Global Role

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the People's National Assembly of Algeria Mohamed al-Arabi Walad Khalifa referred to the change Iran's 1979 Revolution made in the world, and hailed the role it played in defending human dignity and freedom.

The Islamic Revolution of Iran created a wave of change in the region and even the world, Walad Khalifa said in a Sunday meeting with an Iranian parliamentary delegation led by Gholamreza Mesbahi Moqaddam in the Algerian capital of Algiers.

The Algerian speaker further referred to the political ties between Tehran and Algiers as "outstanding" in the Islamic and Arab world, and urged the reinforcement of economic ties between the two Muslim countries given their numerous capacities and capabilities.

Mesbahi Moqaddam, for his part, referred to the exchange of delegations between the two countries as a sign of both sides' keenness to expand cooperation.

The Iranian delegation also had a meeting with Chairman of the Algerian Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ibrahim Boulahya, during which Mesbahi Moqaddam highlighted the close and common views of the two countries on regional developments.

Boulahya, for his part, emphasized the political, cultural, and social commonalities between Tehran and Algiers, and underscored the necessity for boosting efforts to improve the level of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation visiting the Arab country consists of members of Iran-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The visit comes a couple of months after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined that the Islamic Republic is prepared to strengthen relations with Algeria in diverse political and economic spheres.

"We (Iran and Algeria) are in the same region and face similar challenges, like terrorism and extremism, and (accordingly) we are ready to improve our ties with Algeria in all areas," Zarif said at the time.
