Iran, Greece Bilateral Trade to Reach €3bln: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Greece plan to increase their bilateral trade to three billion euros by the next three years, Secretary-General of Iran-Greece Joint Council Majid Moafeq Qadiri announced.
"Currently, Greece is Iran's third partner within the Schengen Area and we hope that according to the set targets, the value of bilateral trade between the two countries will reach €3 billion by the next three years," Moafeq Qadiri told the Tasnim News Agency.
He further emphasized that Greece is a good market for Iranian petrochemical products, dried fruits, olive products, carpets, minerals and building materials, engineering services as well as shipbuilding.
Earlier on Sunday, Moafeq Qadiri had said that a 70-strong Iranian trade delegation working in the field of human medicine will visit Greece within the next 45 days.
The Iranian official noted that the members of the delegation are due to discuss areas of mutual cooperation with Greek officials.
He said a delegation of Iranian shipping activists is also scheduled to pay a visit to Greece in the near future.
Moadeq Qadiri further said he conferred with Greek ambassador to Tehran on turning the Iran-Greece Joint Council into Iran-Greece Joint Chamber.
He said he has also called for the facilitation of visa requirements for Iranian businessmen visiting the European country.
Iran and Greece, known as popular tourist destinations for their rich histories, seem more willing to strengthen ties after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took office in August 2013.
