Iran Not to Disclose Details of Its Syria Peace Plan: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian official announced that the country would not reveal the details of the plan it has proposed to end the ongoing crisis in Syria.
“The details of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s (peace) plan for Syria are not known to any international side and will not be disclosed,” Hamid Reza Dehqani, an official with Iran's foreign ministry, said in a televised interview on Wednesday night.
He said there may be certain other plans presented under the title of ‘Syria peace plan’ but none of them is Iran’s plan.
As regards the reason behind the secrecy of Tehran’s peace plan for Syria, Dehqani explained that the disclosure of plans before their implementation has led to their failure.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian also dismissed speculation about details of an updated plan prepared by Tehran for peace in Syria.
He said the Iranian updated initiative will be submitted to the United Nations secretary general after “full consultation” between Tehran and Damascus.
Last year, Iran proposed a four-part plan for finding a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria, which was welcomed by the UN.
Amir Abdollahian recently said Iran's initiative, proposed by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, has been updated.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 200,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians– and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside Syria.
