Iran’s Zarif, IAEA Chief Meet in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano held talks in Tehran on Sunday and conferred a host of issues.

During the meeting, Amano and Zarif discussed a number of issues, including the implementation of a Road-map signed between Tehran and the IAEA.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, as well as Reza Najafi, the country’s ambassador to the IAEA, were also present at the meeting.

During his one-day visit, the UN nuclear chief is also scheduled to meet with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi.

Amano is accompanied by a four-member delegation, including his deputies.

Spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Saturday that Amano’s visit is aimed at facilitating the process of the implementation of the Road-map.

Also, Head of the Iranian parliament’s Special Commission for Reviewing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action said on Saturday that Amano will attend a session of the commission on Sunday.

On July 14, Iran and the IAEA signed a Road-map regarding the Islamic Republic’s nuclear work in the Austrian capital city of Vienna. The agreement was reached on the same day Iran and the Group 5+1 – the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany – finalized the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna.

As part of the Road-map, the IAEA is required to finish its investigations about Iran’s nuclear activities and submit a report to the agency’s board by December 15.
