Zarif Urges Expansion of Iran’s Ties with Kazakhstan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted the necessity for promotion of mutual cooperation between Tehran and Astana in all fields, particularly in the fight against extremism and terrorism.
In a Tuesday meeting with Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Rapil Zhoshybayev here in Tehran, Zarif hailed the joint opportunities for mutual cooperation between the two countries in the Caspian Sea and different economic and political fields.
The Iranian minister further referred to Kazakhstan as an important neighboring country, saying that Iran has special respect for the nation and government of the Central Asian state.
He also asked relevant sections in Iran and Kazakhstan to take appropriate steps in line with the implementation of agreements reached between the two sides.
Zhoshybayev, for his part, urged constant consultations among Iranian and Kazakh officials on the issues related to the Caspian Sea, and expressed the hope that the upcoming Summit of the Caspian Sea will result in effective outcomes.
He also stressed the necessity for fighting terrorism, and praised Iran’s experiences in this field. “We are ready to have a close cooperation (with Tehran) in this regard,” he added.
The Kazakh official, who is also the country’s commissioner for the upcoming Expo 2017 due to be held in the Kazakh capital of Astana, added that he is in Tehran to invite Iran to attend the global exposition.
Expo 2017 is scheduled for June 10 to September 10 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The theme of the exhibition is “Future Energy”.
