Belgian Police Arrest Paris Attacks’ Suspect: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Belgian police have arrested a suspect of the Paris terrorist attacks following a major anti-terror raid in Brussels on Monday morning, a report said.

Dozens of heavily-armed police sealed off a large area of Molenbeek in Brussels during the hunt for Saleh Abdeslam, who hired one of cars used by the terror cell, The Daily Mail reported.

The man was arrested after Belgian police stormed an apartment in the terrorist hotspot of Molenbeek. It is understood officers fired CS gas in through a Velux window into the building to incapacitate the man before entering. The man was carried out of the building through the skylight.

Belgian public broadcaster RTBF confirmed that one man has been arrested at the scene but it was not Adeslam, who is still on the run.

French police questioned Abdeslam in the early hours of Saturday morning on a motorway close to the Belgian border as he returned to Brussels with two other men, just hours after the attack.

Meanwhile, Belgian police have started to clear a large section of Brussels city centre after a suspicious car with French number plates was spotted around the Joseph II street. Bomb squad technicians are preparing to examine the car after a security cordon is established.
