Iranian Cleric Sees Paris Attacks as Outcome of West’s Policies in Middle East
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami underlined that the recent terrorist attacks in the French capital of Paris have their roots in the Westerners’ wrong policies in the Middle East region.
“The terror that occurred in France has grown from the seeds that they (the West), themselves, planted,” Ayatollah Khatami said in an address to a large congregation of worshippers here in Tehran on Friday, referring to the terrorist attacks in France last week, which killed over 130 people.
“One who sows the wind will reap storm,” the cleric added.
He further emphasized that over the last five years, the westerners, including the French government, have inflicted suffering on the oppressed people of Syria, through training and supporting terrorists in the Arab country.
“You (westerners) are training terrorists,” he said, adding, “You bred snakes that are biting yourself today.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, the cleric described “a real coalition against terrorism” as the only way to counter its threats and said the international community should unite against the inauspicious phenomenon to establish security across the world.
Late on November 13, a string of coordinated attacks in and around the French capital left at least 132 people dead and some 200 others injured.
A state of emergency has been declared in the European country shaken by the horrific attacks claimed by the ISIL terrorist group.
The West and its regional allies have been blamed for supporting the terrorists operating inside Syria, including ISIL.
According to the United Nations, more than 250,000 people have been killed and one million wounded in the conflicts in Syria.
