JCPOA to Bolster Iran-EU Ties: Bulgarian FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov said a July nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers will have far-reaching effects on the betterment of relations between Iran and European states, including his own country.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will not only pave the way for the promotion of ties between Tehran and Sofia, but also contribute to progress in dialogue between Iran and the European Union on regional issues, Mitov said in an academic gathering in Tehran on Sunday.
He was referring to the lasting nuclear deal that Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) hammered out in July.
The visiting diplomat also described Iran as the “closest” Middle Eastern country to Bulgaria given the two nations’ age-old relations and economic cooperation.
Mitov called for efforts to further unleash Iran and Bulgaria’s potential for cooperation in economy, transportation, energy industry, tourism, culture, education and other fields.
Back in May, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani referred to Bulgaria as a country with a prominent position in Europe, and called for the expansion of bilateral ties in all fields.
In a meeting with Bulgaria’s new ambassador to Tehran, Rouhani had highlighted over a century of good relations between the two countries, and expressed Tehran's willingness to further develop its economic, political, and cultural ties with Sofia.
