Iran to Launch Large-Scale Naval Drill Wednesday
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The main phase of a massive exercise by the Iranian Navy will kick off on Wednesday in the country’s southern waters, stretching over an area from east of the Strait of Hormuz to the northern parts of the Indian Ocean.
The main and tactical stage of the war game, code-named “Velayat 94”, will begin tomorrow morning, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said at a press conference in the southeastern city of Konarak.
The exercise will cover an area of around 3 million square kilometers, down to the 10-degrees latitude, north of the Indian Ocean, he explained.
A range of missiles and torpedoes will be launched during the drill, the commander said, noting that different submarines, missile-launcher warships, missile units, electronic warfare units and commando forces will carry out various missions in the upcoming drill.
According to Sayyari, the Navy has warned foreign forces to leave the war game zone, saying he will unveil more details in the coming days.
Naval drills are not rare in Iran’s southern waters, in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman and around the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The Navy usually unveils a series of latest military equipment in its drills.
