Differences with Turkey on Regional Issues Need Management: Iranian Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed the need to maintain amicable relations with Turkey and address disagreements on regional issues.

Asked about the relations between Tehran and Ankara after the political upheavals unfolding in Syria, Esmaeil Baqaei said at a press conference on Monday that Iran and Turkey have good relations as two Muslim neighbors.

Both Iran and Turkey are determined to maintain their close relations, he noted, adding, “We need to manage the disagreements about regional issues.”

Baqaei said Iran has clearly warned from the outset of the developments in Syria that the Zionist regime will be the sole party benefiting from a power vacuum to repeat its crimes in Islamic countries.

Denouncing the Israeli attacks that have destroyed the infrastructures of Syria in recent months, the Iranian spokesman expressed hope that all regional countries would make collective efforts to prevent the Zionist regime’s crimes across the region.

In a telephone conversation on March 29, the presidents of Iran and Turkey weighed plans for a meeting to talk about the issues of mutual interest as well as regional and international developments.

The Iranian president expressed optimism about holding a meeting in future, emphasizing the importance of deepening ties and enhancing relations, as well as addressing the regional and international developments.
