Higher Turnout to Better Show Iran’s Might: Zarif
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the bigger turnout in the ongoing elections will better demonstrate the country’s might and dignity.
After casting his ballots in the parliamentary and the Assembly of Experts elections on Friday morning, Zarif said the international community will better feel Iran’s power in the polls and gets the message that one should talk to Iranians with the language of respect, not pressure.
The Iranian people’s support for the Establishment is the biggest factor behind Iran’s position in the international community, he explained.
Polls have opened on Friday morning for the parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections, being held simultaneously across Iran, and are scheduled to be closed in 10 hours unless the voting time is extended upon the Interior Ministry's decision.
Some 54.9 million Iranians are eligible to cast their votes in the two elections.
