6 Iranian Prisoners Extradited from Armenia
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Embassy in Yerevan announced that six Iranian nationals imprisoned in Armenian jails were extradited to the country on Friday afternoon.
The embassy said the convicts were handed over to Iranian judicial officials yesterday in Nurduz, a border crossing between the two neighboring countries.
The extradition was made possible through the efforts made by the Iranian embassy in Armenia and the cooperation of the Caucasian country’s ministry of justice.
Taking the recent extradition into account, a total of 19 Iranian prisoners in Armenia have been expatriated in four phases since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (began on March 21, 2015).
The majority of them were convicted of carrying illicit drugs in their trips to Armenia. Currently 32 other Iranian nationals are still imprisoned in the neighboring country.
The transfer came as a bill on the extradition of criminals between the two countries was recently received by the Iranian parliament, and is expected to be ratified within the coming months.
