IRGC Fights Off Terrorist Group Northwest of Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) forces killed a number of terrorists in armed clashes in a northwestern border area on Friday.
According to the public relations department of the IRGC’s Hamze Sayyid al-Shohada Base, the IRGC servicemen clashed with terrorist teams affiliated with anti-revolutionary groups in Sarvabad and Mahabad regions in the northwestern province of West Azerbaijan on Friday evening.
According to the statement, a number of terrorists were killed in the encounters and a manhunt is still underway to smash the remaining ones.
A local IRGC serviceman was quoted as saying by IRNA that the clashes occurred in the village of Bengovin, near the city of Mahabad.
Members of the group had entered the village to carry out terrorist attacks and spread propaganda, he added.
The operation follows three successive attacks on terrorist groups along the Iranian borders in the past weeks.
On June 13, IRGC Ground Force troops killed five members of the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK) terrorist group in an ambush in Sardasht region in West Azerbaijan.
On the same day, Iranian police forces killed five members of the Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group in an exchange of fire in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, while a trooper was also martyred.
And on June 15, the IRGC forces killed a number of militants in clashes with two terrorist teams trying to intrude into Oshnavieh border area near the frontier with Iraq.
