Iran Volleyball Team Marches into Olympic Games Quarters
RIO (Tasnim) – Iran overpowered Egypt 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-16) in Pool B on Saturday and booked a place at the quarterfinal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games men’s volleyball competition.
In the match held at Maracanazinho, Shahram Mahmoudi top scored Iran with 21 points and Ahmed Abdelhay was Egyptian top scorer with 13 markers.
Iran has been pitted in Pool B against Argentina, Poland, Cuba, Egypt and Russia.
Host Brazil has been drawn in Pool A along with Canada, France, Italy, Mexico and USA.
The volleyball competition at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games started on August 6 and will finish on August 21. Iran will play Russia on Monday.
