Takfiri Militants Shell Syria’s Aleppo, Kill Civilians

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Takfiri militants on Monday continued shelling residential neighborhoods in the northwestern Syrian city of Aleppo, killing and injuring several civilians.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Takfiri terrorists shelled residential areas in al-Hamdaniye, al-Soleymanieh, and al-Hizam al-Akhdar neighborhoods in Aleppo yesterday, leaving 9 people dead and 20 others injured.

In a separate development, the terrorists targeted a tent for refugees in Aleppo, killing several people.

The attacks came despite a three-hour daily humanitarian ceasefire being in force around the Syrian city of Aleppo.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said short-term truces helped militants replenish weapons and added that Russia fears militants are using any ceasefire to send in more of their comrades into Aleppo.

He said that in order for the Aleppo ceasefire to be lengthened “it was necessary to solve issues on the fight with terrorists.”

Meanwhile, the Syrian army, backed by voluntary forces and military advisers, made major gains in their fight against the terrorists in southern Aleppo and managed to retake 25 building blocks from them.

A large number of the militants were killed and wounded in the process, and scores of armored vehicles destroyed.

Also on Monday, the Syrian Air Force targeted several gathering centers of the Takfiri groups in the areas of Kafar Hamra, Khan al-Asal, Ma’rata, Khan Touman, Talat Bazo, and Dahret Um al-Qari’a, claiming the lives of large groups of them.

Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces are fighting to recapture the strategic city of Aleppo from the foreign-backed terrorist groups.

The security forces encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
