Iranian, Indonesian Officials Urge Closer Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Indonesia’s ambassador to Tehran explored avenues for stronger relations between the two Muslim nations, particularly in the economic sphere, as in the oil and gas industry.
In a meeting with Octaviano Alimuddin, the Indonesian envoy, on Wednesday, Larijani said bilateral trade and economic interaction between the two countries have not developed as fast as the political and parliamentary ties.
Calling for efforts to boost economic cooperation, Larijani voiced Iran’s readiness to attract Indonesian investment in its oil and gas projects.
He also referred to the tourism industry as another suitable ground for the enhancement of ties.
For his part, Alimuddin expressed the Southeast Asian country’s readiness to work with Iran in the oil and gas industry.
He also unveiled plans for visits to Iran by Indonesia’s president and parliament speaker in future.
In May, Iran clinched a deal with Indonesia to sell the Southeast Asian country 80,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
In June, Indonesia’s Oil and Gas Director General Wiratmaja Puja said the country’s state energy company Pertamina plans to sign a deal to purchase a stake in an oil and gas block in Iran.
