Syrian Army Eliminates Squad of Daesh Militants near Deir ez-Zor Airport

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian Armed Forces have killed 26 Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists near the Deir ez-Zor airport in the country's east, local media reported Thursday.

Syrian army units have also managed to knock the enemy out of a number neighboring areas and destroyed the militants' ammunition, Sputnik cited Syria’s state news agency SANA as reporting.

On September 17, the aircraft of the anti-Daesh coalition carried out four airstrikes against the positions of the Syrian army at the Deir ez-Zor airport, leaving 62 soldiers killed and some 100 wounded.

The Pentagon said that the airstrike was a mistake and was intended to target Daesh militants, while a number of Syrian officials stated that the attack was intentional.

The Syrian civil war has been raging for over five years, with all diplomatic efforts so far failing to completely stop violence. Deir ez-Zor, which is still held by Syrian government forces, has been under siege of the Daesh terrorist group since July 2014.

Daesh, a terrorist organization outlawed in many countries, including the United States and Russia, took over large swathes of Syria and Iraq the same year.
