State of Emergency Declared in Tennessee amid Wildfires
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam declared a state of emergency on Thursday amid raging wildfires in the east of the state.
Certain requirements will be eased under the state of emergency, to give support to the victims of the fires.
On Monday, wildfires spread from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park into inhabited areas in eastern Tennessee.
Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters said on Thursday that at least 10 people have died in the county as a result of the fires. The earlier death toll was seven people, Sputnik reported.
Earlier in the week, Haslam said that the present wildfire was the biggest fire that occurred on the state’s territory over the past 100 years. Over 50 people have been injured because of the fire and over 700 buildings in Sevier Country have been destroyed.
