Scores of Saudi-Backed Militias Killed across Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemeni army and popular committees killed at least 37 Saudi-backed pro-Hadi militias in Yemen’s southern province of Shabwah, in retaliation for Riyadh’s ongoing aggression against the impoverished country.

Nearly 37 forces loyal to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi were killed and 23 others injured after Yemeni troops targeted their positions in western Shabwah, Lebanon’s al-Maydeen TV channel reported on Tuesday.

In a separate development, the Yemeni forces claimed the lives of dozens of pro-Hadi mercenaries in Taiz after they attempted to sneak into a military base in the southwestern province.

Shortly afterward, Saudi military aircraft carried out an airstrike targetting a truck as it was traveling along a road in the al-Khawkhah district of the western coastal province of Hudaydah. The attack claimed the life of a civilian.

Additionally, five people were killed and two others injured when Saudi fighter jets pounded a market in the Haydan district of the northwestern province of Sa’ada.

Saudi jets also launched three attacks against an area in the Red Sea port city of Mukha, though no reports of casualties and the extent of damage inflicted were reported.

Saudi warplanes conducted two aerial attacks against an area in the city of Sirwah, which lies about 120 kilometers east of the capital, as well. No reports of casualties were available.

Saudi Arabia has been engaged in a deadly campaign against Yemen since March 2015. The Saudi aggression, which has killed at least 11,400 people, was launched in an attempt to reinstate Hadi, a Saudi ally who has resigned as Yemen’s president but seeks to forcefully return to power, and to undermine Yemen’s popular Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The Saudi strikes have also taken a heavy toll on the country’s facilities and infrastructure, destroying many hospitals, schools, and factories.
