Iran Beats Uzbekistan in Asian Girls’ U18 Volleyball Championship
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Uzbekistan in the 11th Asian Girls’ U18 Volleyball Championship on Wednesday.
The Iranian team edged past Uzbekistan 3-2 (23–25, 25–23, 21–25, 25–22, 15–11) in Chongqing No. 8 Secondary School Yubei Campus.
Majda Cicic’s girls had already suffered two successive defeats against powerhouse China (3-0) and Hong Kong (3-1) in the tournament underway in China.
Iran will face Samoa for 9th place on Friday.
The tournament has brought a total of 11 teams including reigning champion Japan, China, Iran, Thailand, Korea, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, Australia and Samoa together.
The top four teams in the tournament will advance to the 2017 FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship, which is due to take place in Argentina from August 18 to 27.
