Significant Rise in Iran’s Defense Industry Capacity: DM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s capacity in defensive arms industry increased by 45 times in the current Iranian year, which will end in the next few days, Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said.

Speaking at a meeting of Defense Ministry officials on Wednesday, Brigadier General Dehqan hailed the advances made in the Iranian year 1395, announcing a “45-fold increase” in the capacity of defense industries in the sphere of ordnance and weaponry.

The general pointed to the production of Emad and Zolfaqar missiles, inauguration of the country’s first national turbojet engine, Matla'-ol-Fajr radar, homegrown Saba-248 helicopter, and Karrar tank, as the highlights of the Defense Ministry’s activities in the current year.

He also hailed the ministry’s success in developing military cooperation with foreign countries, referring to the full implementation of a contract with Russia on the purchase of S-300 air defense missile system, and signing defense agreements with China, Oman, South Africa, and Iraq.

The minister also pledged continued efforts in the next Iranian year in the military sphere.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has on various occasions emphasized the necessity for incessant progress of the Iranian Armed Forces irrespective of political developments.

In September 2016, during a visit to an exhibition of the Defense Ministry’s achievements in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran has “an inalienable and absolute right” to reinforce its defensive and offensive power.
