Saudi Regime behind Intensified Security Measures in Bahrain: Activist

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of the Bahraini German Organization for Human Rights and Democracy (BGO) slammed the Saudi regime for its continued interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs and said the Kingdom is behind Manama’s heavy-handed crackdown on the opposition.

“In addition to the Al Khalifa regime, the Al Saud regime is a major operator of internal and security affairs of Bahrain,” Abdulelah Al-Mahoozi said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency.

The Riyadh regime insists on intensified security measures in Bahrain and the recent death sentences and executions in the Persian Gulf country are examples of the measures, he  said.

The human rights activist went on to say that the crackdown on the residents of Diraz and the revocation of nationalities of Sheikh Isa Qassim, the spiritual leader of Bahrain’s Shiites, and former MP Sheikh Hassan Isa are other examples of the security measures in Bahrain.

The BGO is a nonprofit organization registered in Germany and established by a group of activists aiming to strengthen the commitment of human rights and democracy principles in Bahrain.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.

Troops from Saudi Arabia have been also deployed to Bahrain to assist in its crackdown on the peaceful protesters.
