Syrian Forces Inflict Heavy Casualties on Terrorists East of Damascus (+Photos)
DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian army troops backed by allied forces on Friday clashed with terrorist groups east of the capital, Damascus, inflicting heavy casualties on the foreign-backed Takfiri militants, sources said.
According to Tasnim dispatches, heavy clashes erupted between the Syrian Arab Army and the terrorists in the Ein Tarma-Jobar road, which have been underway since this morning with the army pounding the positions of the militants, the Syrian sources said.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, a source said the Syrian army forces have liberated some strategic areas in Ein Tarma township and cleared several buildings in the area from terrorists.
During the operations, dozens of members of the so-called Jaysh al-Islam and the Faylaq Al-Rahman terrorist groups were killed and injured, the source said.
The operations came after the latest round of diplomatic talks for settling the Syria crisis ended in the Kazakh capital of Astana on Wednesday.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
