Russia Set to Create New Cruise Missiles with Ranges Up to 1,000km

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Russia's Tactical Missile Systems Corporation will finish the development of a new line of cruise missiles with ranges of between 100 and 1,000 kilometers by 2020, Boris Obnosov, the director general of the corporation, said Thursday.

The Tactical Missile Systems Corporation is the leading Russian manufacturer of high precision missile systems of all types for different launch programs, and comprises over 30 enterprises across the country.

"We are working on creating new cruise subsonic missiles. We have a new line of missiles with ranges of 100, 200, 400 and 1,000 kilometers respectively. I think we will finish with this line by 2020," Obnosov told reporters on the sidelines of MAKS-2017 air show, Sputnik reported.

According to the newly-released Russian doctrine on naval activities until 2030, long-range high-precision cruise missiles will become the core weaponry for Russian navy by 2025.

One of the most effective and widely known Russian cruise missiles, Kalibr, was first used in combat by the Russian Caspian Flotilla against Daesh targets in Syria in November 2015.

Kalibr missiles have been repeatedly fired from Russia’s Buyan-M-class ships and Varshavyanka-class submarines against Daesh targets in Syria. Since the Kalibr missile has an operational range of up to 2,500 km, the launches were carried out from the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

The 13th International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2017 kicked off on Tuesday and will last through Sunday.
