Iranian Deputy FM, Russian Academic Official Discuss Closer Tehran-Moscow Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vitaly Naumkin held talks on ways to boost Tehran-Moscow cooperation in different areas.
In the meeting held in Tehran on Saturday, Jaberi Ansari and Naumkin exchanged views about a range of issues, including regional developments and Iran-Russia relations in diverse fields.
The two sides also discussed ways to help end the ongoing crises in Syria and Yemen.
Iran and Russia have formed a strong alliance in recent years, with both supporting the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government against foreign-backed militancy.
They have also ramped up efforts to expand their ties in various political, economic, trade, scientific and academic spheres, especially since coming into force in January 2016 of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
