Heads of Iran’s Branches of Power Hold Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, and Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani convened in Tehran Sunday to discuss the latest domestic and international developments and weigh up plans in retaliation for the recent US sanctions against Iran.

The heads of the three Iranian branches of power held the periodic meeting at the presidential office for talks about various issues.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, President Rouhani said they discussed ways to boost unity and solidarity among the three branches and strengthen coordination among all of the forces serving the Islamic Republic.

Economic issues such as production and investment were also mooted in the tripartite gathering, he added, unveiling plans for a robust package for supporting domestic and foreign investment with the backing of the three branches of power.

The president noted that they also talked about the recent US sanctions and the measures Iran should take in retaliation.

He further reminded American officials that they themselves have to bear the brunt of the anti-Iran measures, stressing that such actions will isolate the US.

On Thursday, the US Senate voted overwhelmingly to impose new sanctions against Iran, Russia and North Korea.

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives had passed the bill on Tuesday in a 419-3 vote.

President Rouhani announced earlier that the bill on new sanctions against Tehran will receive the necessary response.
